There again might have been only two NBL games to look back on but no shortage of hot talking points for us to dissect on this week's Hoops Heaven's Basketball Hustle along with catch up with the Master Coach, Rob Beveridge.
Hosts Chris Pike and Damian Martin open up the show by discussing welcoming in the New Year and then taking a look at the history-making exploits of Josh Giddey as a rookie in the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
We stick with the NBA theme and take a look at Keifer Sykes with the Indiana Pacers, Cam Oliver with the Atlanta Hawks and Scotty Hopson to OKC. We also look at Brad Newley bizarrely having his draft rights traded from the LA Lakers to the New York Knicks.
Our focus then turns back onto #NBL22 and the two matches we saw in Round 5 with the Perth Wildcats beating the Cairns Taipans on New Year's Eve and then Melbourne United defeating the Tasmania JackJumpers on New Year's Day.
We then discuss the votes in #TheRedhage for the Redhage Basketball Player of the Year and announce this week's winner of the Hoops Heaven #TheGalen Best Team Man for Round 5.
Our guest for this week's show is then championship winning coach Rob Beveridge. We start off by discussing how a trip to Queensland was ruined by COVID and how he and his family are now in isolation.
We then get onto some basketball talk and discuss everything from Bevo's upcoming NZ NBL season with Southland Sharks and his championship mission, his thoughts on the NBL at the moment and especially putting his coaching hat on to take a look at the Adelaide 36ers, NZ Breakers and Tasmania JackJumpers.
It's a fascinating chat with one of the country's great basketball minds.
We then wrap up the show by look at the first import sacked this NBL season and who else might be on the chopping block along with Marshall Nelson joining the Cairns Taipans and who else might soon find themselves in the league.
