No shortage of hot NBL24 topics again for us on Hoops Heaven's Basketball Hustle from those big men dominating and those struggling with the whistle to an impressive Adelaide 36ers response and a breakdown of the woes at the Perth Wildcats.
We also look at the offensively dynamic Tasmania JackJumpers, Cody Ellis labels the deep Melbourne United as the NBL team to beat and the tough weekend that is ahead for Brisbane Bullets minute Shannon Scott and Aron Baynes.
We also discuss futures of Xavier Cooks, Duop Reath and Jack White, give a full #NBL24 Round 5 Preview and you'll get plenty of breakdown of what worked for Adelaide 36ers, what's not for Perth Wildcats and why we wish big men were allowed to play defence more.
We begin this week's episode talking about how much fun it is to see the Tasmania JackJumpers playing with their extra firepower this season with Jordon Crawford added to Jack McVeigh and Milton Doyle, and why that extra scoring punch could take them a long way in NBL24.
We then have a fascinating discussion about some of the big men in the NBL. We talk about how good it was to see Alan Williams come back and dominate for the South East Melbourne Phoenix, Isaac Humphries hit back for the Adelaide 36ers and then Marcus Lee and Mangok Mathiang struggling to stay out of foul trouble and with the way the league is officiated.
The Adelaide 36ers had a tough night on Thursday against the Phoenix but to their credit hit back against the Perth Wildcats 48 hours later after a players meeting. Coach CJ Bruton shortened his rotation too, they looked a desperate team and their response was impressive but maybe the 'Cats made them look better?
Speaking of the Wildcats, there's lots there for us to dissect including it not being ideal for Alex Sarr playing 12 minutes and not understanding not using Corey Webster in the fourth quarter, and Hyrum Harris, Ben Henshall or David Okwera at all. The overuse of Michael Harris, struggles defensively of Jordan Usher and the whole team, and then an out of form Bryce Cotton are all part of the discussion.
The Wildcats will face the Brisbane Bullets this Friday night and we look at a Brisbane team without Aron Baynes and Shannon Scott which puts more pressure on Nathan Sobey.
We also discuss how deep and impressive Melbourne United are looking and especially so considering they are yet to play a game at full strength in NBL24. According to Cody Ellis, they are the team to beat.
It's then time for a full preview of Round 5 in the NBL and then we look at what's next for Duop Reath, Jack White and Xavier Cooks after they were waived by their respective NBA teams.
