Simon Mitchell gives his overview of the NBL after Round 13 with Melbourne United still a cut above but he is starting to warm to the Perth Wildcats as a challenger while he sees the Sydney Kings as their biggest threat and he has the New Zealand Breakers knocking on the door as a contender.
Simon Mitchell was responsible for bringing Gary Browne to the NBL and he was disappointed in him and for him after his ejection for South East Melbourne Phoenix against Brisbane Bullets, and believes he was lucky to not end up suspended just to top it all off.
We also get the thoughts from Simon Mitchell on the league's two newest imports, Abdel Nader thrown in the deep end at the South East Melbourne Phoenix and Casey Prather's return to the NBL with the Brisbane Bullets.
Simon Mitchell breaks down what the Cairns Taipans have done so well now twice against Melbourne United and it all starts with their targeting of Chris Goulding on the defensive end. He also thinks Sydney can do something similar and continues to be impressed with what Patrick Miller is doing.
We take a look at the Sydney Kings and how Denzel Valentine found his best form of the season, and why Simon Mitchell still sees them as genuine championship threats particularly with the advantages they could potentially create against Melbourne United.
Unfortunately another talking point is the coach's challenges in the NBL and Simon Mitchell lets his feelings known about how he never wanted them introduced, he doesn’t like them and he wants them scrapped. He sees them as a blight on the game and embarrassing for the league, and wants it to go back to the drawing board to be fixed.
Simon Mitchell selects his winner of #TheGalen Best NBL Team Man for Round 13 and it goes to the Cairns Taipans with Bul Kuol after the impact he had in the win against Melbourne United for the Snakes.
We then talk about the coaching situation in the NBL right now with Simon Mitchell wanting the Illawarra Hawks to lock in Justin Tatum for the future while he sees Brian Goorjian as a perfect candidate at the Adelaide 36ers, but it could be a good fit for a number of people.
It's then time to get stuck into our preview of Round 14 in the NBL with Simon Mitchell especially looking forward to seeing the New Zealand Breakers host the Perth Wildcats, and seeing if Sydney Kings can make a statement against Melbourne United.
