Hoops Heaven's Basketball Hustle - Galen Young Bonus Episode
Monday Apr 13, 2020
Monday Apr 13, 2020
A real treat for this special bonus episode of Hoops Heaven's Basketball Hustle with an interview with 2010 NBL championship winner at the Perth Wildcats, Galen Young.
NBL Writer Chris Pike backs up The Scoring Machine Shawn Redhage's interview with Damian Martin as part of these special features during the Coronavirus pandemic by catching up with a man who had a 13-year professional career and has now moved into the coaching chair at college level.
Plenty of ground is covered with Galen including why the Perth Wildcats weren't ready to win that 2010 NBL championship without him and his disappointment he wasn't asked to return to try go back-to-back. But he still has nothing but fond memories of his time in Perth and in Townsville at the Crocodiles before that.
He also discussed how close to a return to the Crocs he was but they wouldn't budge to allow him to remain home for the birth of his twin sons, which ultimately led to his retirement from a professional career that saw him play throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and indeed Australia.
There are his stories of his time in Australia that he tells in his usual entertaining style, while also paying homage to the post-basketball career Corey 'Homicide' Williams has made for himself and even the supposed Kiwi tough man who he found himself in a battle with.
There's also a discussion over what COVID-19 is doing to his life, the pride he has in his sons and a look at his coaching future which now could see him move into the women's side of basketball.
